Our Work

One condescending remark was, "Oh! So, you're a commenting body". We do make many comments, even on National issues. Many Exco members are now retired and have the time to read through bills of legislation that are relevant to our community. We also organise guest speakers to talk about local issues or other items of interest at our quarterly general meetings. We also visited the City of Cape Town's laboratories to find out why their reports take two months to reach us. We met with the City's storm-water team to try to convince them to use a bio-filter rather than just washing the summer's E. coli culture into the sea. We facilitated Memorandum of Understanding meetings between neighbours of a park and the City. We communicate regularly with our ward councillors and have made a presentation to our Sub-Council 19 on ways to improve the Transport Plan locally. We organised a campaign to object to an off-premises sale of liquor as our original (dry town) title deed restriction says. We try to get the City to abide by it's own Municipal Planning By-Law and guidelines rather than requesting departures. We have presented our objections for proposed electricity tariff increases at local National Energy Regulator SA hearings. Our members support us. In summary, our comments and objections are probably more tangible evidence of our work. See below.
